Job Description

The VP of Business Development is responsible for identifying, attracting and signing new client relationships and business. They must be knowledgeable and passionate about management consulting, and have the networking skills to secure and conduct meetings with C-suite and senior leaders at Fortune 500 firms and Middle –Market companies with headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area. You will identify potential new prospects, identify their needs, demonstrate how Career Partners International KC (CPI-KC) might provide strategic solutions to their business objectives.

CPI-KC’s business development process is highly consultative and personalized. Our target clients are CEOs, CFOs and SVPs, typically Senior Managers of business units, heads of strategy and heads of human resources. The majority of our business currently comes through word of mouth, typically from executive-level leaders and past clients. Because CPI-KC has an extremely differentiated offering, the challenge of business development is one of education and awareness rather than differentiation from competitors. 

  • Identify new relationships to cultivate. Develop a pipeline of future work, identifying, engaging, and tracking prospects through research, industry events, direct outreach, and networking. Converse with prospects about a broad range of topics, creating meaningful connections with potential clients in a wide variety of businesses.
  • Develop and secure new client relationships. Set-up meetings to engage senior-level business leaders to better understand their business challenges.
  • Communicate  CPI-KC’s unique value proposition through relevant CPI-KC case studies and frameworks. Collaborate with other CPI-KC colleagues to plan and deliver new business presentations and work sessions.
  • Collaborate with other CPI-KC colleagues to create proposals that capture the needs of the clients and how CPI-KC can help to solve these needs. Lead the process of cultivating new business from an initial meeting through selling an engagement. Extend current client relationships.

Follow-up with clients to make sure they are satisfied with the experience of working with CPI-KC. Be a steward of the culture, demonstrating and modeling CPI-KC’s values and practices clearly to clients.

Desired Skills & Experience

  • Solid networker, with the ability to sell CPI-KC by cultivating relationships with business acquaintances and prospective clients
  • Strategic thinker and problem-solver, with a broad understanding of innovation and business strategy Presence and confidence to advise senior leaders and Fortune 500 executives
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Established network of relationships with key business decision makers Proven track record of sales experience, with an emphasis on selling professional services to senior executives 8+ years of experience with a professional services firm (Strategic Management Consulting or Solution Selling      preferred)
  • Experience prospecting within a variety of industry verticals, with an emphasis in Healthcare, Technology, Bio Science, or Financial Services
  • Already live/work in the Greater Kansas City area. 

The candidate selected for this opportunity will be responsible for growth of our corporate client base in the Kansas City market and for sales of a wide range of services including assessments, leadership development programs, executive coaching, team building, executive search and outplacement services. The candidate selected must also be a relationship builder, influencer and definitive closer of business. Previous sales and business development experience is required. Strong and sophisticated communications skills are required.
